I have to use a Windows PC at work for a few months now. It’s a brand new machine that did not come with Flash – and I actually intend to keep it that way. For the very few cases where I need Flash and there is no alternative, I use Chrome.

As far as Windows go, having a machine without Flash is a smooth ride.

Your list made me chuckle – ah, the small annoyances of living in the IT world.

I never had that Windows Installer issue. Weird.

Modal update dialogues? Yes, those are horrible. I’m staring at you, Skype, you and your constant, on-startup, focus-grabbing “I have an update ready. Want to install it now?” dialogue. Or if you just found an update as I was using the computer. Fun!

I’m surprised there are no apps to read MS-SQL files on Mac.

Saying you aren’t eligible for an upgrade AFTER you pay? And charging for a “download service”? The first is illegal and the second is laughable, especially considering you can just use a free Dropbox account to store the installation file and grab it from there if the website refuses to provide a free download.

Windows Update pinging you about updates or restarting after updates is annoying, especially in Windows XP where it’s a consistent, repeating interruption. Then there are these rare cases when XP just blatantly ignores your update settings, installs them on its own and reboots without asking. Right as I was working on something important.

I currently don’t have any access to the site whatsoever, so I can’t give anyone a copy of it.

I don’t consider a week of downtime acceptable, and as soon as MIT restores access to my account I will be moving everything to alternative hosting (i.e. its original hosting).

If needed, or if you wanted to definately stop this service, I would be honored to maintain this service through my own servers for all the Secondlife residents.
About removing all megas under the 64x64x64 size, please be aware that many people carry on using the 1.23 version of the SL viewer, so if you could at least wait till this 1.23 version is unavailable (sure it will …) I think it would be fair for all these residents

Did you run out of support? Did you need donations? I’m sure if you set up a PayPal microfinancing scheme, some of us would’ve gladly contributed.

Could I run a copy of the service please? Or work out something similar at least.

I just need the nodes with the megaprims pretty much.

I’d be responsible for bandwidth and maintenance for my own public service, but any and all redundancy to this really useful tool should be welcomed.
