Server move

This website is now hosted on a new (free) server. If you can see this post, you have been directed to the right place. Else you have not.

Do let me know if anything’s broken.

Server glitches

The server is having minor issues. By which I mean it’s spectacularly broken (i.e. slow).

I’m trying to work out why.

AjaxLife down

[7:09 GMT] And down again. :(

[6:12 GMT] And we’re back again. Woo!

AjaxLife is currently down, as the ajaxlife.net server is currently busily running updates and such. All other services from ajaxlife.net (e.g. login screen, maps, etc.) remain available.

This should, in theory, last under an hour.

E-mail down.

UPDATE 2: It’s really fixed this time. Last time it was partially fixed, but then started throwing things into black holes and sending emails saying “I can break the rules too, you know.” to itself instead of actually delivering things. Yay for misconfiguration. Anyway, it’s back now. Onward to more email issues! :D

UPDATE: Email should work now. I can’t send myself mail, but sending from other addresses of mine seems to work. I need to look into this.

Just a note to anyone who might want to email me – due to server maintenence, any email you try to send to me will bounce, on the basis the mail server isn’t running. (Or even installed, for that matter).

End of term, AjaxLife work, server issues

So, the school year is finally finished, as of noon today. Woo! To coincide with this, the server running this site suffered a hardware failure, and everything had to be moved over, resulting in just under three hours of downtime. Meep.

Since SL is down, AjaxLife isn’t running, and server load is much lower. And I can work on chasing some annoying bugs too. Wee. And adding features and other fun stuff.

This post has the most categories per word on this blog. :p

Back again

This time the server was killed off by excessive load. But it’s back now. :D

Working on preventing this happening again..

Server back up

And no, it didn’t get overloaded. I did something stupid.

I had to restart Apache while at school. However, I forgot my only means of accessing the server was via Apache. So apache stopped, and that was that.

After two hours and fifty-five minutes, I’m back. (and my server had a much needed rest) :D

Server downtime

This server will be down for maintence for an unknown length of time starting at 18:00 BST. It will have more RAM and disk space when it comes up – hopefully helping with the strain that AjaxLife places on the server.

While the server is down, TSL Profiles and *.katharineberry.co.uk. will be down. Additionally, the web functionality of the HUD Thingy will be down, and my maps will fail to rez. >.>

Thank you for your patience while we work to make things run faster and crash less. :)

A real update (finally)

So, I haven’t actually posted anything here in a while, if you discount the map and angry rants. So I’ll throw everything I intended to say but didn’t ever get round to. :p

Second Life

SL has been somewhat dull recently. But it’s getting more interesting. On a technical level, it seems to run fine, except for when network/power issues knock out 400-2000 sims. I haven’t had many issues – although the grid seems to have taken to gobbling my inventory if I log off within half an hour of picking it up. And I apparently lost some inventory from ages ago that I needed, which is annoying. That was also the first piece of inventory I noticed I had lost – so I’m hoping I haven’t lost anything else.

Cirr seems to have quit permanently with limited/no explanation. Alpha and Ming transferred on Monday (after meddling with ID because LL managed to lose it). Norn vanished without notice; I suspect he forgot about SL again. Everyone’s leaving! :(

On the other hand, I still have some friends. And four people have told me that they have a crush on me. Which is odd.

TSL Profiles

I have been working (sometimes) on my new(ish) website, TSL Profiles, which is… I’m not really sure what it is. But it’s something. And I’m working on it. It currently features profile (unsurprisingly), ratings, comments, in/out-SL chat, “µBlog,” a friend list, and a public API. I also intend to add a group system at some point in the not so distant future.

School

Exams are soon. I hate exams. They mean that I have to do revision, which is evil. >.>

Also, I did the AS Computing Module 3 exam yesterday. Which was easy enough, but that wasn’t remotely surprising. Two more AS Computing exams on Tuesday, then a week holiday that will be spent entirely revising, then exam week. Bleh.

School remains a waste of time filled with bullies and perverts.

Website Stuff

Very briefly:

  • I fixed a bug in my stats, which now have over 10,000,000 data samples.
  • This server should be getting a bit more RAM shortly.
  • Updated the blog to WordPress 2.2 this morning.

Also, I’ve been completely exhausted most of the week.

On a completely unrelated note, why did Flickr send me an email informing me that “FaerieDevilish has uploaded 1 photo in the last 24.225833333333 hours?”
Is that not just a little over precise?

Second Life Fails

I’ve had it with Second Life. Technically I haven’t had any of the supposed issues (excluding friend lists, and I made a substitute for that anyway). However, I’m sick of the community. The vast majority of people refuse to type. A significant number of them are jerks. The adults that make up the majority of our grid largely completely ignore what we have to say. Raise any objection and they’ll just frustrate you with unrelated things until you stop bothering them (Rafi, I’m looking at you). Certain other people (Alex Harbinger, for example) have decided to take credit for things that have nothing more to do with them than anyone else. Yes, there are a few nice people around. I do have some friends who don’t fall into the above, but overall, I’m sick of this.

I’ve had it with all of you. I’d also like the (public) adult sims gone. I’d also like the idiotic noobs gone, the greedy money grabbing cheaters gone and the jerks who insist they’re superior and above the rules gone. This won’t happen, so instead I’ll withdraw from the communication more than I already had.

For your reading pleasure, here is a list of people I’m sick of, in no particular order:

  • Alex Harbinger
  • Rafi GKid
  • Tabitha GKid
  • nik385 Doesburg
  • Storm Basiat
  • Jay Clostermann

Here are some things I would like to go away:

  • The whole intergrid commerce thing
  • GK Interns (because most of them feel they are superior to everyone else because they’re involved).

I have had enough of the TG.

Unrelated sidenote: the server crashed for a few hours earlier today. The issue is being looked into.
