Since SL is down, AjaxLife isn’t running, and server load is much lower. And I can work on chasing some annoying bugs too. Wee. And adding features and other fun stuff.

This post has the most categories per word on this blog. :p

So, I haven’t actually posted anything here in a while, if you discount the map and angry rants. So I’ll throw everything I intended to say but didn’t ever get round to. :p

Second Life

SL has been somewhat dull recently. But it’s getting more interesting. On a technical level, it seems to run fine, except for when network/power issues knock out 400-2000 sims. I haven’t had many issues – although the grid seems to have taken to gobbling my inventory if I log off within half an hour of picking it up. And I apparently lost some inventory from ages ago that I needed, which is annoying. That was also the first piece of inventory I noticed I had lost – so I’m hoping I haven’t lost anything else.

Cirr seems to have quit permanently with limited/no explanation. Alpha and Ming transferred on Monday (after meddling with ID because LL managed to lose it). Norn vanished without notice; I suspect he forgot about SL again. Everyone’s leaving!

On the other hand, I still have some friends. And four people have told me that they have a crush on me. Which is odd.

TSL Profiles

I have been working (sometimes) on my new(ish) website, TSL Profiles, which is… I’m not really sure what it is. But it’s something. And I’m working on it. It currently features profile (unsurprisingly), ratings, comments, in/out-SL chat, “µBlog,” a friend list, and a public API. I also intend to add a group system at some point in the not so distant future.

School

Exams are soon. I hate exams. They mean that I have to do revision, which is evil. >.>

Also, I did the AS Computing Module 3 exam yesterday. Which was easy enough, but that wasn’t remotely surprising. Two more AS Computing exams on Tuesday, then a week holiday that will be spent entirely revising, then exam week. Bleh.

School remains a waste of time filled with bullies and perverts.

Website Stuff

Very briefly:

I fixed a bug in my stats, which now have over 10,000,000 data samples.

This server should be getting a bit more RAM shortly.

Updated the blog to WordPress 2.2 this morning.

Also, I’ve been completely exhausted most of the week.

On a completely unrelated note, why did Flickr send me an email informing me that “FaerieDevilish has uploaded 1 photo in the last 24.225833333333 hours?”
Is that not just a little over precise?

This is a brief update just to make sure this site doesn’t die like I predicted it would when I started it.

I haven’t posted anything recently, largely due to depression. And I’m not doing much better now, but at least I can actually work on things, which is a significant improvement over the state I was in last week. Which is good, I suppose. I’ll start posting here properly when my lives sort themselves out.

So, things I’ve done since my last post:

Cried a lot.

Started a new project-type-thing, phpsimcaps. It’s a library that allows you to interact with sim-caps using PHP. So far it can only request map layer data and upload sounds and textures. I’m having difficulty getting ImageMagick to convert to JPC at a decent quality though – any ideas? Also, animation upload isn’t going to work until I’m in the mood for working out what LL are doing to the animation to make it play properly. (Currently you can upload animations, but they won’t play back). I might make a separate post about this some other time. Maybe.

Upgraded my server with the extra RAM and HD space it needs (no more random segfaults or disk space errors, woot! )

Improved my stats site in order to make pages load much faster without putting any real load on the server. (Compared to having to locate and average tens of thousands of numbers every visit)

Thought about life, got depressed, and sat in a corner doing nothing. And I went to school sometimes too, where I sat slumped over my desk doing nothing.

So that’s my update for however long. I’ll post again when I feel better.

English Essay

History Essay

French Worksheet

Chemistry Worksheet

Computing coursework

I’m open to help on these. I need the whole lot done by later this morning. >.<

On the other hand, Cyan Linden is going to place sim data collectors for my stats project into every mainland sim, in the hope that it will help with QA. So yay. I made this new graph in celebration (cached for five minutes due to it being slow to generate):

Random quote of the day:

[12:20] You: The old ones still have links because my database throws a fit if I try and filter by time. Yay for “database load issues.”
[12:20] Cyan Linden: haha….SL is all about database load issues ;p

It’s true too.

First off, school is evil. But mandatory, at least at my age in my country.

I don’t really have any good reason to say that school’s evil today. I didn’t have much homework, and Games (read as: “stand outside for two hours <strike>freezing</strike> playing hockey”) wasn’t bad, since it wasn’t actually freezing for once. But then I left my gloves behind. Oops.
I do, however, have to produce some IT work by later today, and I have no idea what. Just that I’m really going to be in trouble if I don’t get it done. Best be doing that after I finish typing this, then.

Linden Lab appear to have yet another list of workarounds in the current client. They seem to have missed the easiest and best workaround for the inability to offer teleports, which would be to enable “God Mode.” In case you don’t know how do do this, here are some instructions:

If you can’t see the “Client” and “Server” menus in the menu bar, to the right of “Help,” press Ctrl-Alt-D to make them visible

Open the “Client” menu and click “View Admin Options.”

View someone’s profile and teleport them. You should be able to do so, although it will claim that you are “god summoning” them. You aren’t really.

Optionally, click “View Admin Options” again to remove the extra stuff.

Despite yet more bugs being introduced, SL hit 26,500 users without having any database issues at all, which is a marked improvement. Hopefully this is the end of our database-related woes.

Also, Cirr and Norn both logged on for the first time in a while.
Norn says that Vista is great. I reserve judgement until I actually try it, but Mac OS X 10.4 is doing fine for me.

As of now I’m watching Boost compile so I can install anyterm on my server, allowing me to use the shell from school – if it works.

I’m going to go work on this IT work and try and get some sleep. I haven’t slept in ages, and I’m ill. So generally grumpy.

I leave you with this:

Nine consecutive positive integers add up to 2007. What is the difference between the largest and smallest number?

Post your answer and how long it took you to work out in the comments.
