Minor site change

Of minor interest is that the homepage previously at http://katharineberry.co.uk now just redirects to http://blog.katharineberry.co.uk, as most of the content there was outdated or defunct – and there was never much there in the first place. Anything else at katharineberry.co.uk (if anything) still works.

Ah well. :P

Filler

I haven’t actually posted anything in a while. This is because during holidays I take a break from doing anything productive whatsoever.

AjaxLife updates will resume soonish, as soon as I get the backlog of schoolwork out of the way – although development will remain sluggish until mid-June or so, when I’m finished with all my exams and such. But IE6-in-corporate-environment users, I have not forgotten you! Stay tuned for fixes!

Oh, and I have a fancy new computer. Woohoo. Here’s a nice pair of screenshots:

Or, at least, here would be a nice pair of screenshots if WordPress 2.5′s upload facility wasn’t broken with calls to ctype_digit (which doesn’t exist) – what’s wrong with is_numeric (in fact, the patch to rectify the error just replaces all instances of ctype_digit with is_numeric – but I’m far too lazy to do that myself)?

Anyway. Blah blah blah. Exams suck, coursework moreso. Also, this is the first post with tags attached in a while.

Multiple websites disabled

[00:19 GMT] Everything except the JSON-SL Search interface and TG mapping are back. The former was being abused to the point of a DoS attack, the latter was accidentally deleted due to a stupid UI.

[00:08 GMT] Everything except services.katharineberry.co.uk is back. Going to work out what to do about that…

Numerous websites of mine have been disabled while I work out what’s murdering my server. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. This blog and AjaxLife will remain functional as much as possible.

By request: The AAYBTNWPAOPGYBBSACS

I am hereby forming the Anti Awarding Yourself Barnstars or Telling (No, Wait, Politely Asking) Other People to Give You Barnstars and Barnstars for Set Arbitrary Criteria Society. Or the AAYBTNWPAOPGYBBSACS for short.

Anyone who wants to participate in a useless society that does nothing, has no aims and will achieve nothing, please leave a comment. Note that the ANWPAOPGYBBSACS is in favour of barnstars awarded by people other than the awardee because that person actually felt the awardee deserved one.

This is from the same people as the last request.

By request…

I have been asked to post this on my personal blog, so…

Stupid OU

That is all. Also, the level of paranoia utilised by the Schome project is absurd.

(“OU” standing for “Open University”)

Blog stats

Here’s a nice graph of weekly views, courtesy of WordPress’ stats:
Weekly Views

The blog is clearly dying off. :P

Points of interest: The first spike is a few days after I announced AjaxLife, when it was picked up on the SLED list. The second is AjaxLife being picked up on Reddit. The rest is me failing to do anything of interest. :P

On another note: I just put up a bunch of real pictures on Flickr. They took hours to put up on the 1KB/s (4KB/s at peak) internet connection on this boat, so enjoy them! (Even though they were all shot with the somewhat dubious iPhone camera)

Donation button

There’s a donation button in the sidebar. Please donate. :P

Most likely the donations will pay for the AjaxLife server fees, on the basis they’re highly unlikely to exceed a total of £10 ever. (which is significantly less than the monthly fee for its server)

Side note: see small text under the button.

Reverted to default theme

I reverted the site to the default theme, because it consistently crashed Safari 2.

I’ll be putting it back shortly after Leopard is released, assuming it has a finalised version of Safari 3.

Change in comment moderation

Due to Akismet becoming slightly less effective, and sometimes letting spam comments through, your first comment here will have to pass through moderation. (On this blog so far, its accuracy is just over 99.8% – so it still works pretty well.)

In order to avoid subsequent comments also being jammed in moderation, please do not change your name/email address – if you do, it’ll count this as your first comment (again), and hold it for moderation. Which is more work for me. :p
