You might as well just believe they have a nice offer for the Big Brother. I guess any response above works depending your degree of pessimism. :p

They could well just be logging it for unnecessary means. They could also be logging it to track search popularity per sim; not the query itself, but what sims search for things the most. It could also just be a brainteaser LL put in to confuse us. Success.

Odd. If it was gsa, they could use it to link those locations or for ranking up or down, For example: I search for something, go to a listing, and then search again from that location for the same thing. You could see that as a failed search, and might rank something down.

But since that isn't it, they might want to know if there are unsuspecting places from where people search more/less then others..

Now give some use of these statistics.

Also, almost finished new post, yay.

Why do people use things like foobar.com/tv? It's to see where people searched what. Not for ads, but statistics. Like Alex said. Besides, LL is known to sometimes to things that aren't one hundred percent necessary.

I guess you didn't read the comment.

// Include region and x/y position, not for the GSA, but

The numbers aren't passed to the search engine at all. And, unsurprisingly, it therefore has no effect on search results. Besides, with everything a teleport away, why bother?

Ads.
Contextual ads are big moneymakers. If everyone in the southwest corner of Dougall is always searching for multi tools, ads for multi tools can be targeted at them.

Statistics most probably. It could also be a 'just in case' for security reasons unbeknownst to the general population.

Perhaps it's something we agreed to in the TOS. God knows,
I don't know of any practical use of that.
