You could have just checked if 2006/9 was an integer. If it was, 9-1 = 8.

Of course not. Hmm, try this:

x + (x+1) + (x+2) + (x+3) + (x+4) + (x+5) + (x+6) + (x+7) + (x+8) = 2006

That would be:

9x + 36 = 2006

Subtract 36 and you get:

9x = 1970

Divide by 9, and get:

x = 218 and 8/9.

That isn’t an integer, so no answer is possible.
